Floor Plans: What is a Bi-Level?

The next floor plan in our continuing series I’d like to discuss is the Bi-Level floor plan.  The term Bi-Level is often synonomous with terms like Raised Ranch, Split Level, Multi-Level, or Tri-Level.  While each of these names might mean something slightly different, especially to different people, there is a few general characteristics defined to each of them.

In a Bi-Level style floor plan the home is somehow divided by section of stairs, creating multiple levels for the living area.  Some single family homes often depict this as a main floor kitchen and dining with a half flight of stairs to a lower living room and a half flight of stairs up to the bedroom and bathroom areas.  At Sierrafield, our Bi-Level plans present in two different ways.

The Hemlock and Aspen floor plans divide the space at the point of entry to the condo.  In these homes you will find a half flight of stairs off of the garage entry, one leading up to the main living space, one leading down to the basement.  Once up this half flight of stairs, the main floor has a ‘ranch style’ look with the kitchen, dining, living, and master suite spaces all on the same level.  A finished basement would add an additional living space and bedroom(s). 

The Sycamore floor plan is a different style of bi-level with a ‘ranch style’ entry with a stair-less main floor living area and kitchen, but a full flight of stairs to a finished lower level leads to two bedrooms and a bathroom.

The bi-level floor plan can work for many people.  It is one of the most economically friendly ways to build and buy, often with more square footage for the price.  Once inside the Aspen and Hemlock, one can hardly tell it is even a non-ranch floor plan!
